Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Released: February 1st, 2011
Publisher: HarperTeen
Pages: 441
Rating: 5/5

Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn't understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the governments demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.

But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.

First off I have to say that I LOVED this book! After reading Lauren's debut novel; Before I Fall I was just hungry for more and this book met my expectations so well! It was amazing. The idea of Love being a disease was something I have never heard or read in the YA genre and it was so refreshing. I literally devoured this book!

I enjoyed everything about this book, the characters, the plot, the writing style and the book itself! I really love dystopia and I really love romance but more than that I love a great fantasy novel and this book was just perfect.

This story is basically about Love. The story is about Lena and Alex and what they are willing to sacrifice to be together, which is difficult because in this world of theirs Love is quite literally thought of as a disease! Many references are made to Romeo & Juliet throughout story which I really enjoyed. These two love birds have the same feelings and commitment to each other as Romeo & Juliet but it was just a little more believable. Their relationship grows slowly because Lena is terrified of falling in Love. To her love is a disease which can be cured and also a disease which caused her mother's life. She only wants for her 18th birthday to come so she can get the cure and never has to worry about falling in Love or in the book referred to as "being infected".

I thought that this made Lena and Alex's relationship so much more fierce. Just think how it would feel to fall in Love somewhere, where it is referred to as a disease! I just LOVED it, everything was SO intense and frighting because if you did fall in Love you might go crazy or die and if you didn't the government would eventually do it for you! Everything about this book was abosolutley marvelous!
I highly recommend this book, go pick it up ASAP!
